Chinese New Year celebrations at the Open University 2024

Please join us for Chinese Lunar New Year Celebrations 2024 on Thursday 1st February 2024 in the Hub theatre on the Milton Keynes campus.

We're delighted to be hosting another Chinese New Year celebration with activities and workshops for you to enjoy. Try your hand at ink calligraphy or create your own paper cutting with the help of facilitators joining us on the day from Goldsmiths, University of London.  We'll also have live dance performances from MK Chinese Dance Fusion, Tai Chi sessions from Feixia Yu and a fun quiz with prizes!

Similar to last year, we'll also be running our calligrapy and papercutting competition on our online padlet. Upload your creation here by the 10th February and we'll announce the winners shortly after!  

Alongside the activities, there will also be traditional Chinese refreshments such as springs rolls, coffee and tea to enjoy with colleagues.  If you plan to come to this event and have specific allergies to food, please contact online-ci@open.ac.uk before the event.

Please pop in anytime between 1.00 - 3.00 pm. It would help us to manage numbers for the refreshments and activities if you could register your interest to attend on this microsoft form.

Below is the running order for the day:

1.00 PM - Event starts. Tea / Coffee/ Chinese tea/snacks available

1.10 PM - Welcome to the event by Dr KAN Qian

1.15 PM - Calligraphy, papercutting, and quiz activities begin and run throughout the event.

1.20 PM - Chinese fan dance performance on stage by the Milton Keynes Chinese Fusion Dance group

1.40 PM - Tai-chi/Qigong performance on stage by YU Feixia, Senior Lecturer in Chinese, University of Central Lancashire

1.50 PM - Have a go at Chinese fan dancing with Jennifer Fung, Sandra Peng and Ly Voo

1.50 PM -  Tai-chi/Qigong taster session with YU Feixia

2.30 PM - Tai-chi/Qigong taster session with YU Feixia

3.00 PM - Event ends
