The talk will feature our very own academic speakers from The Open University, Professor Stephen Peake and Dr James Warren who will discuss the role of China on the environment in an ever changing world, in particular China’s transformation towards a greener economy.
The talk will consider this transformation and the tension between growth and the steps being taken towards ecological modernisation.
About the Speakers
Professor Stephen PEAKE
Stephen Peake is Professor of Climate Change and Energy at the Open University, a Fellow of the Cambridge Judge Business School and Senior Associate of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership at the University of Cambridge. He has worked at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, the International Energy Agency and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Originally a physicist, he is an enthusiastic teacher, researcher, consultant and facilitator with over 30 years’ professional experience in the fields of climate and sustainability. In 2021 he published a new popular science book 10 Short Lessons in Renewable Energy, Michael O’Mara Books, London. Stephen has worked on the China block of U116 since 2015.
Dr James WARREN
Dr James Warren is a senior lecturer in Engineering & Innovation in the STEM Faculty. He has worked on the stage 1 environment module since inception in 2007. He also supports the sustainable energy modules in stage 2 and 3 (undergraduate) as well as the final year Engineering project theme covering sustainable energy technologies. He has recently worked with BBC on the television series Electric Cars, Heat Pumps – ‘What They Really Mean For You’ which had some 6 million viewers https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0fzls18 . In February 2024 he moved to the executive team in the STEM Deanery as Associate Dean, Student Experience, applying his wide range of expertise to production and presentation of content and working to ensure student outcomes are met for a wide range of stakeholders.
