What does the moon have to do with the sun?
On the Mid‑Autumn Festival, a time traditionally guided by the moon, we are delighted to welcome our guest speaker Yu Feixia, Honorary Principal Lecturer at the University of Lancashire, who will introduce an ancient Chinese way of understanding time through the changing positions of the sun in relation to the earth.
She will offer an introduction to the Twenty‑Four Solar Terms, a traditional Chinese system developed through close observation of subtle shifts in climate, daylight, plant life, and human activity across the year. Recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage, this system has long helped people attune everyday life such as food, festivals, health, and work, to the rhythms of the natural world.
As a qualified Qigong trainer, Feixia will also demonstrate a few key Daoyin movements to show how different movements are traditionally associated with different seasons, and how moving in harmony with seasonal change is believed to bring the greatest benefit.
Registration here on Eventbrite: OCI Talk - Between Moon and Sun: Discovering China’s Seasonal Way of Time Tickets, Friday, September 25 • 1 PM - 2 PM GMT+1 | Eventbrite
The talk will be held online via MS Teams and a recording will be made available on this page afterwards.
We look forward to seeing you there!
