About this event

The Online Confucius Institute at The Open University is offering 8 free sessions of Qigong for body and mind with expert instructor YU Feixia. Every Monday starting 24th February 2025! 

This is suitable for absolute beginners and you do not need to attend all 8 sessions to sign-up. Register here on Eventbrite. 

About Baduanjin Qigong

The ancient practice of Baduanjin Qigong, also known as Eight Pieces of Brocade, is a renowned Chinese health routine that nurtures both physical vitality and mental clarity. This 8-week online course, delivered by a qualified and experienced instructor, offers a gentle yet powerful approach to well-being through mindful movement, breathwork, and relaxation techniques.

In just 30 minutes per week, you’ll learn and practice the graceful movements of Baduanjin, known for enhancing flexibility, reducing stress, increasing mental clarity and improving overall energy flow. Suitable for all levels, this course provides a calm and supportive space to cultivate balance, strength, and inner peace.

About the trainer

YU Feixia is a senior instructor of yoga and Health Qigong, and the founder of YuTaichi & Qigong Training. She is an Honorary Principal Lecturer in Chinese and also former Director of the Confucius Institute at University of Central Lancashire. She runs weekly Tai Chi and Qigong classes both online and in-person. She regularly features in local press and speaks about Tai Chi, Qigong, and Chinese wellbeing practices at BBC Radio Lancashire. Feixia received the Mayor of Preston Covid Hero Award in 2021 for offering nearly 400 free online Tai Chi and Qigong classes. Trained by Grand Master Chen Xiaowang, she became his "in-door disciple" and qualified as a Tai Chi instructor in 2013 and 2019.

The eight movements to be practiced:

1.两手托天理三焦 Holding Up the Sky with Both Hands to Regulate the Sanjiao (Triple Burner)

2. 左右开弓似射雕Drawing the Bow to Shoot the Hawk

3. 调理脾胃须单举 Lifting the Arms to Regulate the Spleen and Stomach

4. 五劳七伤向后瞧Looking Backwards to Relieve the Five Fatigues and Seven Injuries

5. 摇头摆尾去心火 Clearing the Heart Fire by Shaking the Head and Wagging the Tail

6. 两手攀足固肾腰 Holding the Feet with Two hands to Strengthen the Kidney and Lumbar Area

7. 攥拳怒目增气力 Punching with a Fierce Gaze

8. 背后七颠百病消 Standing on the tip-toes Eliminates Illnesses
