Throughout May 2023, the OU Online Confucius Institute delivered a unique and exciting four-week online Virtual Exchange training programme with the Institute of Online Education at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), and UNICollaboration.org. Designed for those who have little or no experience with international virtual collaboration, the programmed introduced participants to different models of Virtual Exchange and how these can be offered to their students to give them an enriched international and intercultural experience virtually.
On Friday 9th June, the Open University were delighted to welcome a delegation led by Professor Yang Dan, President of Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU). As we know, Chinese is one of the six official languages of the United Nations. UNESCO (part of the United Nations) first created Chinese Language Day in 2010 to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity and to promote the equal use of the six official languages at the United Nations. Since then, 20th April has been designated as Chinese Language Day. The day also celebrates Cangjie (仓颉), who invented Chinese characters about 5,000 years ago.
To celebrate Chinese New Year, the OU Online Confucius Institute held a celebration on campus with live Guqin music, spring roll making, writing the Chinese character for ‘happiness’ in brush and ink and Chinese tea with snacks. We were delighted that over 150 people attended the celebrations.
